Non-Invasive Phenotyping of Root System

Details

Plants rely on their roots for nutrients and water uptake. Being an essential organ, studying plant root development is important to understand their behavior under challenging conditions. In collaboration with Prof Malcolm Bennett from Nottingham University we will implement X‐ray Computed Tomography (XCT) to monitor the root system architecture of different species including desert plants under normal and stress conditions in a non-invasive manner. These studies will unravel adaptive strategies used by plants to survive challenging conditions.

We have established a platform for imaging living plant roots; this will allow determining changes in root properties under different conditions.
