Overview

In the Laboratory of Plant Cell and Developmental Biology (LPCDB), we aim to understand key developmental processes leading to the final root system architecture with a special focus on regulatory networks controlling protein movement and asymmetric cell division in plant roots. We investigate how cells communicate with each other to transfer positional information and instruct specific fate during pattern formation by mapping protein complexes in vivo at the cellular resolution.

We also study molecular mechanisms fine tuning plant growth and defense against pathogens with the purpose of creating resistant crops with optimal growth behavior. With a special interest in the iconic desert plant date palm, the team implements the basic knowledge acquired from developmental biology to understand date palm growth and unravel its strategies of adaptation to desert conditions.
